Equilibrium Engineering was contracted by Polycorp to design and model the performance of the building’s mechanical systems for their latest project, Q Lofts. The concept of the Q Loft building was to create an ultra low consumption building in the heart of Halifax’s North End. Through collaboration with Polycorp, and Michael Napier Architecture teams, Equilibrium helped develop and integrated central HVAC system to provide heating, cooling and ventilation.
Results from the energy model indicate that the unique design of the Q Lofts mechanical systems will consume 50% less energy of a similar a building constructed to the Model National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (MNECB 1997).
