Windsor Elms Village
Deep Energy Retrofit
Windsor, Nova Scotia

Equilibrium Engineering is leading deep energy retrofits of Windsor Elms Village; a non-profit, 108-bed Long Term Care Home built-in 2010/11 in Falmouth, Nova Scotia. The initiative is a role model for other healthcare facilities and industries while aligning nicely with the environmental goals of The Municipality of West Hants.

Solar and batteries will reduce peak demand costs and benefit sensitive medical equipment from power quality improvements while offering back-up power and reduced diesel use during grid outages. The innovative storage, combined with comprehensive efficiency measures, offers very attractive, deep long term energy, cost and greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Significant non-energy benefits include improved lighting levels, humidity and temperature control, reduced maintenance costs and greater resident safety.

Project savings may be used to enhance program offerings for residents, while long-term benefits include energy security and facility resiliency. The facility is uniquely positioned within the community to demonstrate energy and environmental leadership.
